General Information
Tell Brak is one of the largest sites in the Middle East with a, relatively, continuous occupation. It was first excavated by Mallowan in the 1930s, and then the Oates and others from 1976 onwards. The majority of the emphasis on the site has been on the 4th millennium layers and later and there is only a limited amount of evidence of earlier periods.
Mallowan outdid himself at Brak and next to no information on contextual location or even stratigraphic units of the artefacts found.
